A photocopy of a letter to Mr. George Culver dated Jan. 16, 1855 was obtained. The letter was written by W. M. Turnmey and was sent to George Culveer "through the politeness of Mr. Robert Carpenter." The letter contained the following (spelling is as it appeared in the letter): :Nashville, Tenn. Jan 16, 1866 Mr. George Culver. Dear friend, meeting with Mr. Carpenter on the streets of Nashville and enquireing of him after your health and learning you were getting along but slow. I this morning laid your case before the great Paul T. Ever the professen of surgery in this Colege and said to be the greatest in america. I gave him its history and treatmint and enquired of him what he thout best to do and if he thought you would even regain the use of it. as to the treatment he thought but little needed if the liniment does not do well. The time has come when I must start to colege. wishing and ? (cody)? good health and hapiness and good luck. I subscribe my self your friend. W. M. Turney P.S. if moving your hand causes it to get sore it is too soon to begin that treatment. W. M. Turney This letter was entered under this George Culver as the father George W. Culver had died by 1860 and since Mr. Carpenter (Braxton Carpenter) was mentioned, it is assumed that there would be a family connection to Albert M. Culver as he married the daughter of Braxton, and this George W. Culver gave permission for the marriage. The probate record of Susan's probate application lists the names of many of Icabod as well as George's own brothers. This record is our proof that the eight brothers are sons of George W. Culver.

NOTES from Tonda Thomas Jan. 4, 2002 via email: We suspect, but have not proven conclusively, that the George Culver found in Madison Co., AL in 1830 is the son of New Jersey, North Carolina and Tennessee. However, there is a proponderance of evidence that leaves no doubt in the minds of four descendants of George Culver i.e., Eva Smith Burger, Billie Jean Glenn Rochevot, Nina Culver Corbin and Charles C. Culver. In addition, the East Tennessee Genealogical Society and the DAR have accepted George Culver as John Culver's son. George Culver's wife's name was Sarah. Several Documents point to our George Culver as the son of John Culver, and support the following: (1) John Culver had twelve children, the oldest was named George. (2) A George Culver obtained a Revolutionary War Land Grant from North Carolina in the county of Sevier, State of Tennessee in the year 1810. The grantor was James Williams. (3) John Culver was in Sevier Co., TN during this period. (4) His sons Andrew, Ichobod, Thomas, and Nathaniel were all born n TN. (5) At least two books assign him as John Culver's oldest son. (6) John Culver's wife's name was Sarah Bailey, and two of George's sons carried the middle name Bailey. TT
