NOTES from Tonda Thomas Jan. 4, 2002 via email: We suspect, but have not proven conclusively, that the George Culver found in Madison Co., AL in 1830 is the son of New Jersey, North Carolina and Tennessee. However, there is a proponderance of evidence that leaves no doubt in the minds of four descendants of George Culver i.e., Eva Smith Burger, Billie Jean Glenn Rochevot, Nina Culver Corbin and Charles C. Culver. In addition, the East Tennessee Genealogical Society and the DAR have accepted George Culver as John Culver's son. George Culver's wife's name was Sarah. Several Documents point to our George Culver as the son of John Culver, and support the following: (1) John Culver had twelve children, the oldest was named George. (2) A George Culver obtained a Revolutionary War Land Grant from North Carolina in the county of Sevier, State of Tennessee in the year 1810. The grantor was James Williams. (3) John Culver was in Sevier Co., TN during this period. (4) His sons Andrew, Ichobod, Thomas, and Nathaniel were all born n TN. (5) At least two books assign him as John Culver's oldest son. (6) John Culver's wife's name was Sarah Bailey, and two of George's sons carried the middle name Bailey. TT
